<p>The Veterinary Technology program at NDSU grants a four-year B.S. degree. The program was established in 1976 and has a strong reputation as a leader in the education of the next generation of veterinary technologists. The NDSU Veterinary Technology program currently holds the 2011-2013 AVTE Team Teaching Award.</p>
<p>The successful candidate will be expected to:</p>
<ul>
<li>Teach undergraduate classroom and laboratory courses within the Veterinary Technology program</li>
<li>Develop educational materials pertaining to all aspects of veterinary technology</li>
<li>Advise undergraduate students, supervise students, and provide mentorship to student clubs</li>
<li>Model a high level of veterinary care</li>
<li>Serve on committees for the department, college, and/or university</li>

<p>BASIC FUNCTION: Conduct microsurgery in scientific experiments in anesthetized small animal models</p>
<p>JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:</p>
<p>Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p>
<ul>
<li>microsurgery in rodents (both mice and rats)</li>
<li>anesthesia, intubation, tracheotomy,      femoral/tail/carotid/jugular cannulation and placement of indwelling      catheters</li>
<li>skull thinning and/or focal skull removal, dura removal,      intracerebroventricular injections, intracortical microinjections</li>
<li>sterile surgery and post-operative monitoring</li>
<li>physiological monitoring and maintenance of anesthetized      animals</li>
<li>brain perfusions and sectioning</li>
<li>chemical and drug preparation</li>
<li>intracranial pressure measurements</li>
<li>lab organization, supplies and materials ordering</li>
<li>maintenance of general laboratory equipment</li>
<li>development and writing of standard operating procedures</li>
<li>participation in seminars, group meetings and experimental data acquisition, analysis, and presentation</li>
</ul>
<p>ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:</p>
<ul>
<li>An undergraduate degree in a Life Science field or equivalent</li>
<li>At least 2 years experience conducting microsurgery in preclinical models</li>
<li>Exceptional communication and team work skills</li>
</ul>
<p>JOB REQUIREMENTS:</p>

<li>The candidate should have expertise in one or more of the following fields:</li>
<li>Vascular microsurgery and implantology</li>
<li>Neuroanatomy and neurophysiology</li>

This is a great opportunity to interact with colleagues or learn what AZVT is all about while viewing the beautiful state of Alaska. The conference will cover a wide variety of topics including Field Studies of Eurasion Black Vulture Conservation and Using iSTAT in the Field for South American Fur Seals. Clinical pathology topics will include CBC&#8217;s in Southern Stingrays, a case study Monitoring Estradiol and Testosterone Levels in Gray Seals, Developing a Quality Accuracy Program in a Lab with Multiple Technicians and a Fecal Flotation Comparison Study. Clinical section will cover Invasive BP monitoring in Exotics, Study of Body Temps in Lorikeets, Cardiovascular Irregularities in Anesthesia, Wound Care in an African Crested Porcupine, Physiological Changes in Cold Stunned Sea Turtles and Treatment of Spinal Abscess in Amur Tiger cub.</p>

<p>The technician in toxicology primary objective is to set up a study and follow the experimental protocols requirements. He has to perform technical activities and collect any relevant data sets.<br />
He has to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations in order to maintain the high quality standards of the enterprise.<br />
The technician also has to assist the team leader and/or trainer and /or supervisor with training of new procedures.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) has been recognized in North America since 1993 thanks to the <a href="https://www.navta.net/index.php?section=events&amp;page=national-veterinary-technician-week">National Association of Veterinary Technicians</a>.  During the third week of October each year, national, provincial and state veterinary technician associations are focus on recognizing and celebrating the profession of their members.</p>
<p>Depending on which province you are living, titles for the profession will change. Some of the titles you might come across in Canada include:</p>
<p>RVT &#8211; Registered Veterinary Technicians or Registered Veterinary Technologists<br />
VT &#8211; Veterinary Technologists or Veterinary Technicians<br />
AHT – Animal Health Technologists<br />
RAHT – Registered Animal Health Technologist<br />
TSA – Techniciens en Santé Animale</p>
<p>Despite the differences in the title, the profession remains the same. We are all dedicated and accountable professionals working within animal health care teams across Canada. Our goals are to promote progressive and humane medical care for all animals.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <strong>Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs</strong> has requested OAVT&#8217;s assistance in the distribution of an important <strong>Disease Alert.</strong></p>
<p>We want to draw attention to the fact that this alert has implications in both animal and human health industries. As RVTs we are in a unique position to provide assistance in the monitoring and reporting of this disease.</p>
<p><strong>Eastern Equine Encephalitis</strong> (EEE) has been identified in a horse living near the Ontario/New York State border.</p>
<p>The <strong>Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in Ontario </strong>has implemented an enhanced surveillance of this particular virus due to its <strong>documented zoonotic potential</strong>.</p>

<h3>“Ocean of Knowledge, Mountains of Progress!”</h3>
<p>The 2013 convention theme “Ocean of Knowledge, Mountains of Progress” links the scenic beauty of western Canada &#8212; the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains &#8212; to the current and progressive knowledge that will be shared at the meeting. A strong scientific program, with 28 speakers from Canada and the United States, has been developed and offers up to 24 hours of CE. Four days’ worth of labs, concurrent streams exploring companion animal, equine, bovine and animal welfare topics. <td valign="top">National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) has been recognized in North America since 1993 thanks to the <a href="https://www.navta.net/index.php?section=events&amp;page=national-veterinary-technician-week">National Association of Veterinary Technicians</a>.  During the third week of October each year, national, provincial and state veterinary technician associations are focus on recognizing and celebrating the profession of their members.</p>
<p>Depending on which province you are living, titles for the profession will change. Some of the titles you might come across in Canada include:</p>
<p>RVT &#8211; Registered Veterinary Technicians or Registered Veterinary Technologists<br />
VT &#8211; Veterinary Technologists or Veterinary Technicians<br />
AHT – Animal Health Technologists<br />
RAHT – Registered Animal Health Technologist<br />
TSA – Techniciens en Santé Animale</p>
<p>Despite the differences in the title, the profession remains the same. We are all dedicated and accountable professionals working within animal health care teams across Canada. Our goals are to promote progressive and humane medical care for all animals.</p>

<p>Technologists and technicians enhance the quality of animal and human life through their dedication to the well being of the animals placed in their care. In Canada and the United States, the third week in October has been proclaimed National Veterinary Technician Week and in some provinces, National Animal Health Technologist Week. NVTW provides AHT/VT’s across Canada and the United States the opportunity to celebrate their professional contributions to the animal health care team.</td>

Since the committee is currently working to select this year&#8217;s theme, we should have more information available soon. We all are looking forward to celebrating the annual commitment every veterinary technician gives to the profession of veterinary technology, veterinary assisting and veterinary<br />
medicine.NAVTA is proud to represent veterinary technicians and support our members, state associations, specialties and student chapters during NVTW. Thank you for your participation and enthusiasm!NVTW has been an annual tradition since June 1993 when a NAVTA resolution was passed declaring the third week in October as NVTW.  Activities to celebrate this week have been a focus of the celebratory efforts. The activities serve these fundamental goals:</p>

<li>Reinforce the value and professionalism of veterinary technicians</li>
<li>Provide an opportunity for veterinary technicians to encourage one another<br />

		<description><![CDATA[Medicine throughout the nation, and are extremely important in the effort to provide quality animal health care to insure the humane treatment of all animals]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>Whereas, Animal Health Technologists / Veterinary Technicians are important members of the animal health care team, work in veterinary medicine throughout the nation, and are extremely important in the effort to provide quality animal health care to insure the humane treatment of all animals;</em></p>
<p><em>Whereas, there are accredited programs throughout Canada which provide intensive study of the skills and knowledge to work competently as an animal health technologist / veterinary technician, including, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, clinical techniques, pharmacology, anesthesiology, surgical and medical nursing, radiology, and clinical pathology training;</em></p>
<p><em>Whereas, It is extremely important that each animal health technologist / veterinary technician maintain certification, registration, or licensure through the successful completion of a national and or state examination, practice lifelong learning through continuing education and uphold high ethical standards;</em></p>
<p><em>Whereas, Animal Health Technologists / Veterinary Technicians will be joining their colleagues across the country to urge all to become aware of the important contribution of animal health technologists and veterinary technicians to the health and well being of all animals; therefore be it</em></p>
<p><em>Resolved, The Executive Board of the Canadian Association of Animal Health Technologists and Technicians does hereby declare that beginning in 1994, the third week in October be designated National Veterinary Technician Week.</em></p>
